Unusual situations confuse RTI

One or two ABC users have encountered situation where RTI refuses to believe the data is valid. One example is an employee who was last paid in the previous PAYE year, and now leaves in May 2014, and this gets included (but rejected) in the RTI for June 2014. This even had HMRC baffled for a while but they have now given us a work-around.

Meanwhile the ABC user solved the problem by simply paying the employee one penny. Then everything works OK.

Another situation several payroll users have managed to create that trips up ABC and RTI, is if an employee leaves and you do not remember to tell ABC (to tell HMRC) about this until a few months later. The RTI validator refuses to submit this, and tells you the data is invalid.

I think the latest Payroll update now allows for this, but in case you get the problem, here is a work around.
Unmark the employee as a Leaver. Send the RTI.
And then next Pay Run pay this employee a penny (set their tax code to Week 1/Month 1 basis first), finalise the Pay Run, mark them as a leaver, and send the RTI.
