Still using ABC5

Postby abctech on Thu Jun 19, 2014 12:27 pm

It is June 2014, and we've just had calls from two different users who still run ABC5 for their business (in one case, ABC5 is used alongside ABC6 because they have so many of their own custom reports and programs built up over the years that they have put off the task of converting them to ABC6).

Just thought I'd mention it because it is 9 years since ABC5 was officially obsolete. (though we continue to support users).
Of course, Windows XP is 14 years out of date and millions continue to use that....

June 2018: Another 4 years have passed and this is just to note that we still have people using the old DOS ABC5 software. One or two with multi-million pound businesses producing hundreds of invoices a week. We are still supporting them (ie. fixing their accounts files when a power glitch corrupts the database; old DOS programs are not as "robust" as the modern ABC6 database).

The introduction of HMRC's Making Tax Digital over the next year or two will probably force people to upgrade to ABC6. So just to remind you, ABC6 can import ALL the ABC5 data at the press of a button, so there is no difficulty upgrading.
